Boost Your Health With the Right Supplements

The right supplements can make a huge difference in the way you feel and your athletic performance. Ideally, we should be getting all the nutrients we need from food, but for most of us, that’s a difficult goal to achieve.

For me, I’m a very picky eater, so there are foods that are super rich in nutrients that you could not pay me to eat.  Beef liver is the first example that comes to mind.  And I’m going to go three years old on you here, but I’ve never even tried it, it just looks unappealing and smells even worse when cooked, so I’m out! There are other nutrient rich foods I do enjoy, however, like salmon and blueberries, so I do okay.

Since you are likely not getting everything you need from your food intake, there are some additional supplements that may help with your overall health and well-being. I am not a doctor, so this is in no way medical advice, I’m just going to cover what supplements I take and what they are purported to do as well as suggest some others that can be helpful as well. As always, check with your healthcare professional to make sure you don’t have any medication interactions before adding supplements to your routine.

Creatine-I have been taking this for a while now as it has many more benefits than were originally discovered. Along with speeding muscle recover and enhanced athletic performance, creatine also provides improved brain function, aids in muscle retention during aging, supports heart health, supports hydration and cell function, may improve sleep quality and so much more!  If you thought creatine was just for serious athletes, you may want to take a second look!

Vitamin D3/K2-If you’re taking Vitamin D on its own, you’re missing out on some of the added benefits of taking it with K2.  Vitamin D is hugely important for maintaining healthy bones and a health immune system.  As we age, our ability to turn the sunlight into Vitamin D declines, so it’s important to supplement. Declining levels of Vitamin D can cause cognitive impairment, so think Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s. I like this one from Amazon.

Krill Oil-Can help fight inflammation and reduce arthritis and joint pain. Krill also can reduce cholesterol, help control diabetes and assist in treating depression. Krill oil may be better absorbed than fish oil, so do your research on which is best for you. I use this one from Amazon.

Magnesium -There are several forms of magnesium, all of which perform different functions.  Instead of buying all seven types of magnesium, I use a magnesium complex that has all seven types in one pill.  It contains Magnesium Glycinate (150mg): Magnesium Bisglycinate (40mg), Magnesium Malate (40mg), Magnesium Orotate (10mg), Magnesium Taurate (10mg), Magnesium Citrate (100mg) and Magnesium Carbonate (100mg). Here is a link to get a discount.  Be sure to check out their other products as they have some good ones! Wild Foods has a great one that you can get here and save 15% with DENA2024!

If you are ready to look and FEEL better soon, click here to find out how I lost my last 20 pounds and got my energy back. No one is getting any younger, if you are ready to hit that weight loss goal for good, keep the weight off, feel better and have more energy, now is the time to get started.

Black Cohosh-This supplement is somewhat controversial in the way that there is no evidence supporting that it does anything at all.  However, it is said to reduce hot flashes and night sweats.  Do your research on this one as I’ve seen some studies that say you shouldn’t take for more than 6 months at a time. You can get it here on Amazon.

Beef Liver-Some have said this is a new superfood! Beef liver has lots of minerals needed for daily function, it helps support your immune system, can help with eye health, sexual health, brain function and so much more!  Again, it would be best to get all of these amazing nutrients by actually eating beef liver, but I don’t know many who enjoy it, so supplementing is a good way to reap these amazing benefits! This one is grass fed and very affordable.

B12-Helps support energy levels, red blood cell production, improves brain health and nourishes the nervous system. I definitely feel an energy boost after I take it in the morning!

Mushroom Complex-the one I take has three types of mushrooms, lions mane, cordyceps and Reishi.  Mushrooms support energy, focus and memory, although if you ask my husband, the memory portion doesn’t work for me!

Lugol’s Iodine-I take this primarily for thyroid support.  Even if you don’t have thyroid disease, it can help with metabolism, energy and brain fog.  It does not taste good, the product I purchased said you could take it straight from the bottle, I do not recommend this method as my throat burned the entire day after doing this.  I dilute three drops in about 2 ounces of water and that seems to do the trick.  It does taste like pool water, but it’s just a sip!

Some other supplements that may be helpful:

Fiber-Fiber can help regulate blood sugar, improve bowel function and lower cholesterol.  Be careful when taking too much as it can cause other issues. If you don’t get enough in your diet, Metamucil is an easy and some would say tasty way to get your daily intake.

Turmeric-Turmeric is best known for reducing inflammation. As most of us have inflammation in our bodies, this can help nearly everyone. Other benefits include improving memory, lessening pain and fights depression.

Collagen-Collagen is not just for beauty!  It helps with joint pain and prevents bone loss as well.  There are many different ways to take collagen, the most popular forms are pill and powder.  Your body makes collagen naturally, so adding it as a supplement will just increase what you’re already making.

Some other supplements of note are Flaxseed, Probiotic, Berberine and Glucosamine.  I’m sure there are many more out there, just try to find what you need and get the best quality you can afford!

I want you to feel as good as I do every day! Don’t wait to get started on your wellness journey. If you start today, you’ll feel better and have more energy. I was exactly where you are now five years ago. I now have the luxury of starting every day in a great mood and ready to take on the world. I never thought I would feel this good in my 50’s, but this works!
